Hannah Takes The Stairs in Theaters Tomorrow!

Joe Swanberg's film Hannah Takes The Stairs, which premiered at SXSW earlier this year to rave reviews, makes it to theaters tomorrow! Yeah, it'll be a limited release, but if you live anywhere near where it's playing (find out HERE), you'll want to check it out. I bought a DVD of an earlier film of Swanberg's (2005's Kissing On The Mouth) on a whim after seeing it being compared to earlier so-called "mumblecore" films I had enjoyed, Andrew Bujalski's Mutual Appreciation and Funny Ha Ha. It looks promising, as Hannah is pretty much a who's who of mumblecore filmmakers, including acting turns by Bujalski, Mark Duplass (co-director of The Puffy Chair), Ry Russo-Young (Orphans) and Todd Rohal (The Guatemalan Handshake). Greta Garwig plays the film's titular character, a recent college graduate interning at a Chicago production company, trying to sort our her feelings for her two co-workers, which may result in the disruption of their friendship. Apparently, according to IMDB, it also features a few songs from Swanberg's band, the Ice Cream Floats, which I posted about earlier.

Cool Down With The Ice Cream Floats

The Ice Cream Floats are exactly what you need for these hot summer days. The band is comprised of indie filmmaker Joe Swanberg (LOL, Kissing On The Mouth, Hannah Takes The Stairs) and his Timebox Twins (in which the songs are featured - see here for more info on that) partner in crime, Tipper Newton, and the two sing songs that are LITERALLY the sweetest songs you'll ever hear (no, seriously, they're about ice cream, gumdrops, butterscotch...). The duo hasn't released anything official yet, but if you surf on over to their MySpace page, they've got a few songs offered up (for download) to cure your heat exhaustion and your thirst for pop perfection. "Little Things" and "Gumdrop Tree" are the latest.

"Gumdrop Tree" [MP3]
"Transatlantic" [MP3]** HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
