MP3 OF THE DAY
Good On Paper's "The Message"

So you want a song that'll be lodged inside of your brain all day long? Look no further than Good on Paper's "The Message," which is undeniably catchy and lovely and all those good things you expect from your favorite songs. I don't know too much about this band except that they're from L.A., they've been working on a full-length album and they write some classic-sounding pop songs with boy-girl harmonies you'll fall in love with. Kinda like what would happen if the Velvet Underground met Pavement and had a cute lil baby! Don't you wish Pavement were your baby daddy?

Me and my fellow UCSB students can catch the band's free show in Storke Plaza on November 1st at noon. I've been kinda disappointed by the line-up so far this year (I mean, last year, they had Starlight Mints, Busdriver, Man Man, Mirah...), but this one's bound to be good!

Vote For The Eames Era To Play @ ACL!

The Eames Era has a chance to play at Austin City Limits this year -- if enough people vote for them. These Louisiana kids released another album (Heroes and Sheroes) of charming indie pop goodness earlier this year, and they deserve it. "When You Were A Millionaire" is the kind of song I can't even figure out all the words to (something, something sycamore tree?) that I sing along to anyhow. I could probably do a Google lyrics search, but where's the fun in that, really?

Last-Minute Reminder:

If you're in the area, don't forget to check out Sacramento's Agent Ribbons (with Carina Round) this afternoon! I've written about them before, but they play some really sassy and wonderful indie pop you won't wanna miss. And if you don't live in the area, they're probably coming to a city near you on their US tour this fall -- click HERE for those dates.

Ladybug Transistor, Papercuts Come to SB

I'm always complaining 'bout how very few of the bands I like come round to sunny Santa Barbara. However, I DO like the Ladybug Transistor, and I've heard very very good things about the Papercuts from other people's blogz, so I should shut up -- they'll be playing a show on August 10 at downtown Santa Barbara's Muddy Waters Cafe. Show starts at 8. Thanks to the good people at 805 Shows for bringing this to my attention! Also coming up soon -- the Microphones (Oct. 9) and the Coral Sea (Sept. 15). If you don't mind driving to SLO, you can also catch Mika Miko on Aug. 13, who that Skatterbrain character's been raving about.

Modest Mouse Comes to Santa Barbara

Alright, so I'm always complaining about having to drive to L.A. to go and see shows... well, now I'm allllmost in luck. Modest Mouse will be gracing SB (at the Bowl) with its presence on Sept. 14! I won't be around, cause I fly to Austin, TX (for Austin City Limits) a day earlier, but this is good news for somebody, I'm sure. The show, to my knowledge, was just announced, and tickets go on sale Saturday.

Oh, and I'm not much of a Tegan and Sara fan (though judging from their latest album reviews, I should consider giving them another chance), but if you are, and you live in Santa Barbara, they'll be playing a show at the Bowl on Halloween! That's the kind of news this ghost likes to hear!
