The Beach Boys (a modified line-up, duh) will be playing at the Ventura County Fair on August 7th (@ Seaside Park). It's kind of funny they're still around really, playing county fairs, after being, at one point in time, considered great enough to be the Beatles' American rivals. It's almost tragic, but it also embodies the fun-loving spirit they've always been known for. And it's also right on the beach, almost. So I guess it's sort of fitting. The Warmth of the Sun was released earlier this year, and it paints a more complete and less trivial picture of the band and its genius than previous compilations.
Tickets? Just the price of admission to the fair. Other acts the fair will host include the Bangles and the Motels, which should be fun. Though I think I'll skip out on Papa Roach and Hinder. While nostalgia is fun, I don't think the world is ready to relive the awfulness of '90s "alternative" radio rock.
